Guled Ahmed is a Non-Resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute (MEI) in Washington, D.C., specializing in geopolitics and economic issues pertaining to the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2020, he has worked as an analyst and researcher within MEI’s Egypt and Horn of Africa Program. His areas of expertise include state and nation-building, money laundering and terrorist financing, energy development, climate change and security, and transboundary water issues.
Ahmed’s research appears in various respected think tanks and institutions, such as Harvard and Georgetown, and he has contributed to three books on international relations. His articles have been published in prominent international outlets including The National Interest and Al Arabiya. He also shares his insights on platforms like CNBC Africa and Sky News Arabia.
He is fluent in Somali and English and focuses on issues like climate change, energy security, sustainable development, and international water treaties in regions including Somaliland, Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
