The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed forces, Mohammed bin Zayed in a conference press announced that UAE, Egypt and Somalia agreed to develop a commercial port in the Gulf of Aden off the coast of the Berbera province.
He also added that the deal was achieved through the negotiations of US, UAE and Egyptian officials.
According to this agreement, the UAE will construct a commercial port off the coast of Somalia which will play an important role in the world trade. This project will lead to an increased security of Bab el-Mandeb Strait achieved through the establishment of naval bases in the region.
The implementation of this project is incompatible with Saudi Arabia’s policy in the strait and it will lead to a reaction by Saudi Authorities, for the UAE dominance over the strategic strait will reduce Saudi Arabia’s presence in this region.
